FieldHail ("we", "us") is a weather alerting service for farm fields, operated from Minnesota, USA. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. The short version: we keep what the service needs to work, we do not sell it, and you can delete it.
Account details. A phone number or email address to sign you in, and optionally your name and your farm's name. We never see a password, because there isn't one — we send a one-time code instead.
Field information. The boundaries, names, acreages, crops, planting dates and alert thresholds you enter. Field boundaries are the heart of the service: they decide which radar pixels we read for you.
Weather records for your fields. Hail estimates, the radar window around each hail event, rainfall totals, lightning probabilities and the alerts we sent or held back. We keep hail events indefinitely on purpose: a radar-estimated hail size stamped with a time and a field is the kind of record an insurance conversation turns on months later.
Device tokens for notifications. When you turn on alerts, your browser or phone gives us a token that lets us deliver notifications to that device. We store it with your account.
Ordinary server logs. IP addresses, browser type and request timing, kept briefly for security and debugging.
We do not collect your precise location unless you use the "find my farm" feature to centre the map, and then we use it once and do not store it. We do not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies.
To find your fields on the radar grids, to send you the alerts you have turned on, to show you the weather and the record for your fields, to sign you in, to answer support requests, and to keep the service secure. That is the list.
We use a small number of service providers to run FieldHail, each of which handles only what its job requires: our hosting provider (Railway) stores the database and runs the software; Twilio delivers sign-in codes by text and Resend delivers them by email; Mapbox serves the satellite map tiles your browser requests; Apple and Google deliver push notifications on their platforms. Weather data flows the other way — from NOAA, the National Weather Service, the Iowa Environmental Mesonet and the USDA to us — and nothing about you is sent to them except the coordinates needed to fetch a forecast.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share field boundaries, hail records or contact details with insurers, input dealers, equipment makers or anyone else unless you ask us to (for example, a future feature that lets you send a hail record to your agent) or the law requires it.
Your account and field data stay as long as your account exists. Hail events are kept indefinitely as described above. Sign-in codes are deleted within a day. Server logs are kept for about 30 days. To delete your account and everything in it, email support@fieldhail.com from the address on the account, or use the delete option in the app once it exists; we will remove your data within 30 days, except where we must keep a record for legal or accounting reasons.
Data travels over HTTPS and is stored in a database that only the service can reach. Sign-in codes are stored hashed and expire in ten minutes. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your data we will tell you.
FieldHail is for farm operations and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their information.
When this policy changes we will update the date above and, for anything material, tell you in the app or by the contact on your account.
FieldHail sends one kind of text message: a one-time six-digit sign-in code, sent only when you enter your own mobile number on our sign-in form and ask for a code. One message is sent per sign-in request. We do not send marketing texts and we do not operate a recurring text programme; weather alerts reach you as push notifications in the app, not by text. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out.
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Your mobile number is used to deliver your sign-in code and to identify your FieldHail account, and it is shared only with Twilio, the carrier that delivers the message on our behalf.
